the story is this:
Her elder sister is off to war; she's got no other family and wants to give her a package of things she's made for her--but she has to make it before the ship departs. She's not sure if she'll ever see her again, so, in desperation she crosses the gate. Her town is locked down, the adults are searching for her.

Well that is certainly a nice story idea! I can think of a great many places you could go with it.

I think you pegged her facial expression very well - she really looks nervous/scared of passing the gate and possibly missing her sister.

I like this a lot (and the illustration it's from). I think the textures work really well, both in terms of making it nice to look at and in terms of creating a mood.

GOOD STUFF.
